BONUS! Weekly #Spotify Playlist – 4/17/14 (Favorite Songs Edition)

Weekly Spotify PlaylistI love music a whole lot, which you should know by now. It pretty much runs my life. Recently, I’ve had a handful of songs strutting through my head over and over again, so I figured the best way to alleviate this is to make a Spotify playlist of all of these songs.

Also, expect a “Side A Friday” playlist tomorrow because I really like that name. Anywho, here are a bunch of songs that I can’t stop thinking about! As always, featured artists are after the break! Enjoy!

Bucket List: Bands I Must See

blmfI’ve got a lot of live events and concerts under my belt, but some have outright escaped me for a variety of reasons. I’m mostly lucky in my concert going experience and I truly can’t think of an all around terrible experience I’ve had at a concert. Even if it started poorly, most of the time I’ve escaped with a pretty much amazing experience. But there are some bands that I’ve never gotten the chance to see that I’ve always wanted to feel the experience of seeing those artists live.

Listed below are the bands and artists that I must see before it’s all over. (more…)

Record Store Day 2014: Most Anticipated Releases

RSDCOM2010vectorLast year, I made a list of all of the Record Store Day Releases that I was most looking forward to which included some Prize Fighter Inferno, Coheed and Cambria, The Cure, Notorious B.I.G., Deftones, Blind Melon, Misfits/Lemonheads, Willie Nelson, and Patty Griffin, and while I didn’t get any of those other than the Coheed and Blind Melon/Misfits split, it was still a great experience and didn’t dull my excitement for this year. This year’s Record Store Day doesn’t have any releases that I absolutely must have, but it does have several that I’d like to get my hands on.

There are a great deal of records coming out this year for RSD. some hit or miss, but more awesome than not. If you want to check out the full list, you can go here because there’s no way I’m going over ever single one of them with you. So without further ado, let’s get into what I’m most looking forward to on Record Store Day 2014! (more…)

Recently Purchased Albums

H2OI’m a huge believer in not stealing music. If you’re a follower of this blog, or you paid any attention to my previous Post Modern Age blog, you might have noticed this, or at least you noticed my talk of albums that I needed to purchase over the next few months. This entry is a little bit of an update on that idea. I made a vow a few months ago to purchase at least one album during each pay cycle, and thus far I’ve lived up to it.

With that in mind, here is a list of some of the albums I’ve purchased over the past months and my thoughts on those albums. Spoiler alert: I love pretty much all of them, and I still have yet to purchase Florence + The Machine’s Lungs. I have a feeling like that album will elude me for quite some time.

The ‘Greatest Hits’ Conundrum

The Cure Greatest Hits

The greatest hits album from many bands provokes several different reactions from several different people. From a business/label standpoint, it’s either a way for a band to fulfill their contractual obligations without requiring the band to record new music, or it’s a way to say this band was so good and generated so much money for us that we’re going to honor them with an album highlighting their best work/squeezing their fan base for all the money the band is worth. In fans eyes, it’s a way to get an album full of the songs you know from a band without having to buy several albums from their catalog, OR it represents label fan base gouging, a death toll for the band’s creativity, and an annoyance that plagues conversations about a band.

To me, though, it gives fans a perfect stepping stone to explore a band and truly become a fan of their work. (more…)
